Spy verses Spy Tattoo – Mike Schwab

Everyone should know what Spy vs. Spy is, but if you don’t know check it out here. This is a client tha“t has a few tattoos that I have inked and you can see the American shield in the picture, which you can read about here. This time he wanted a tattoo of his favorite comic series, Spy vs. Spy. The art style is unique and the artist of the series, Antonio Prohías, uses very simplistic line art in astounding ways to depict emotion and comedy. So reproducing the style is not as difficult as you would find in things like anime or game art. The challenge is applying the design to the inside of the hands and depict both in a mirror style that would allow my client to put his hands together and show it like it is in the picture to the left. The preparation was quick. I found a basic pose and transferred it to the stencil. When I began the application process, the client was great in keeping his hands steady. I, in turn, had to make small adjustments to the lines in order to maintain shape to the contour of the hand. I think this is one of my favorite pieces I have done. What do you all think? Let me know on Facebook, Google Plus, or Twitter.
